Amor: fine dining in Boston Spa

Just 2.8 miles from Wetherby, Amor offers a fine dining experience that is nothing short of exceptional. Owner and chef Nikki, with his extensive background in numerous Michelin-starred restaurants, brings the excitement of exquisite cuisine to this charming locale.

We arrived on a pleasant summer evening, a perfect setting for what would turn out to be a memorable meal. Boston Spa itself is always a joy to visit, and Amor fits right in with its warm, friendly greeting and modern yet cosy ambiance. Once seated, we explored the substantial wine list, which boasts a variety of options including whites, reds, sparkling wines, rosés and even orange wines. The extensive selection ensures that there is something for every palate.

As we deliberated over the menu, we were treated to a delightful hors-d’oeuvre: milk bread with sesame seeds and whipped parsley butter. This was so delicious that it set a high bar for the rest of the meal.

For starters John chose the Gin Cured Salmon with Horseradish Cream, Lemon and Dill (£11). The salmon was perfectly cured, with a delicate balance of flavours that complemented each other beautifully. The horseradish cream added a nice kick, while the lemon and dill provided a fresh, zesty finish. I opted for the Cornish Crab with Apple, Cucumber, Kohlrabi and Fennel (£10). The freshness of the crab paired wonderfully with the crispness of the apple and cucumber, while the kohlrabi and fennel added a delightful crunch. It was a light and refreshing start to the meal, showcasing Nikki’s skill in combining textures and flavours.

For the main course, John selected the 45 Day Aged Sirloin with Pomme Purée, Shallot, Chives, Spring Greens and Port Sauce (£22). The steak was cooked to perfection, tender and flavourful, with the accompaniments enhancing the dish’s richness. The pomme purée was silky smooth and the port sauce added a luxurious depth. I chose the Lobster Ravioli with Shellfish Bisque, Asparagus, Wild Garlic and Oscietra Caviar (£25). The ravioli was exquisite, filled with a generous amount of succulent lobster.

The shellfish bisque was rich and creamy, providing the perfect backdrop for the delicate flavours of the asparagus and wild garlic. The addition of Oscietra caviar added a touch of elegance and a burst of briny flavour.

For dessert, John had the Warm Chocolate Mousse with Yuzu Sorbet and Lemon Balm (£9). The combination of rich chocolate and the tangy yuzu sorbet was a match made in heaven. The lemon balm added a refreshing note, making this a perfect end to the meal. I opted for the Lemon Meringue with Basil and Popping Candy (£9). This dessert was a delightful mix of textures and flavours, with the popping candy adding a fun twist to the classic lemon meringue. The basil provided a subtle herbal note that balanced the sweetness perfectly.

Our experience at Amor was fantastic. From the warm, friendly greeting to the exceptional food and wine, every detail contributed to a memorable evening.

This fine dining gem in Boston Spa is definitely worth a visit.
