Feel Electric with EMS

We were delighted to attend the opening of Feel Electric EMS studios on Street Lane, celebrated by the appearance of ex global rugby star, Keith Mason and his inspirational wife, Riona Kelly, who was paralysed in 2015 after suffering from a rare spinal stroke.

The couple have been exercising together at the studios to build her strength back up as part of her long term recovery, and Riona described it as ‘life-changing’ - as a form of exercise that has empowered her, giving her the strength and independence back that she has so missed.

So what actually is EMS technology, and how could it be useful for you? EMS stands for electro muscular stimulation.

It is a unique technology which uses electric impulses to create muscle contractions, working up to 90% of your muscles, resulting in better body strength and overall tone. Academic studies by the Universities of Bayreuth (2002-2003) and Erlangen-Nürnberg (2009), the German Sport University Cologne (2008) and the Bad Oeynhausen Heart Clinic (2010) have all underlined the fantastic efficiency of EMS training. They contend that the technology provides excellent results equivalent to an intense four hours of working out in just 20 minutes.

Founder, Jon Wright, ex Leeds rugby player, and previous gym chain founder experienced the technology himself earlier this year and was so blown away by the results it gave him that he invested in making it available to us all in the North. “I have suffered with back problems since my 20s. After I did my first session, I had my regular physio session, and the therapist couldn’t believe it was the same body. I have also lost two stone since using EMS and I am now lighter than when I got married 16 years ago. It’s truly transformed my physique!” says Jon.

Each session is designed to work as a one-to-one or as a one-to-two session with one of the qualified Personal EMS trainers. Trainers match individuals to tailored programmes to help them achieve their desired results. Results like Kate Stephen’s (36), are becoming the norm: Kate is on her fourth week and has lost 22cm - 8cm from her waist. She has gone down in clothes sizes without needing to really alter her diet.

Kate said, “I’ve always found gyms really intimidating, and felt very insecure...

Well, EMS is not like that. It’s literally you and the trainer in a room, doing some easy to master exercises and it only takes 20 minutes - a real game changer! It’s made a real difference to me, my body and my fitness. My running has felt stronger and I’ve done a few long swims without really feeling like it’s any effort. The personal trainers are all so lovely too.” Some well-known Yorkshire faces have already become fans of Feel Electric, including TV presenter Steph McGovern and BBC Apprentice winner, Sian Gabbidon. Now it’s your turn to try it out!

They are currently offering free trials, so visit their website to book your session.
